ABC Fire Extinguisher Inc. is a family-owned business with over 60 years of experience in providing fire safety solutions. We are currently seeking a Fire Systems Apprentice to join our skilled team. This position offers the opportunity to learn and grow in the fire protection industry while working alongside experienced technicians. As an apprentice, you’ll play a key role in assisting with the installation, servicing, and inspection of fire safety systems, contributing to our mission of keeping communities safe.

Position Overview:

The Fire Systems Apprentice will assist the lead technician in various job duties related to fire protection systems, including electrical installation, pipe fabricating, system installations, and servicing/testing of fire alarm and fire suppression systems. This is a hands-on position with the opportunity for on-the-job training and career advancement in the fire protection industry.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

 The following list outlines the key responsibilities for this position. All personnel may be required to perform tasks outside of their usual responsibilities when needed.

  • Maintain a safe and clean jobsite environment at all times
  • Assist lead technician with the review and understanding of new project information
  • Work in compliance with industry standards and codes such as NFPA 72, NFPA 17, and NEC
  • Use hand and power tools for mechanical work and installation tasks
  • Pull wire through conduit, walls, and drop ceilings as part of system installations
  • Bend, cut, and install conduit following the NEC code
  • Obtain and maintain relevant certifications and credentials
  • Support technicians during fire systems testing, inspection, and service calls

Additional Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in fire alarm or fire suppression is a plus
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems and familiarity with electricity fundamentals
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends or overnight shifts if required
  • Relevant certifications such as NICET, OSHA, BICSI, ICC, or Electrician License are a plus
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; trade school experience is an advantage
  • Basic understanding of blueprints and wiring schematics
  • Ability to work well in a team setting and maintain a positive, professional attitude
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to pass a drug screening

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds
  • Professional jobsite etiquette while working at customer facilities
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights using lifts of scaffolding
  • Positive attitude and a willingness to learn and grow in the role
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) provided by the employer, except for safety shoes
